Charles Leclerc F1 History (2018-2023)
Early Career and Formula 2 Success
Charles Leclerc began his racing career in karting, before making the jump to cars in 2014. He quickly rose through the ranks, competing in various junior formulae before making his debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2017. In his rookie season, Leclerc won the championship with six race wins and eight pole positions, earning himself a spot on the grid for the 2018 Formula One season.
Debut Season with Sauber
Leclerc made his F1 debut with the Sauber team (now Alfa Romeo Racing) in 2018, alongside teammate Marcus Ericsson. Despite driving for a team that was not among the front-runners, Leclerc impressed with his pace and consistency, scoring points in five of his first seven races. He also qualified in the top 10 on several occasions, including a career-best sixth place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Move to Ferrari and First F1 Victory
After just one season with Sauber, Leclerc was signed by Scuderia Ferrari to replace Kimi Raikkonen for the 2019 season. He had big shoes to fill, but quickly proved that he was up to the challenge. Leclerc scored his first podium finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, finishing in third place behind Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. He went on to score his first F1 victory at the Belgian Grand Prix later that season, becoming the first Monegasque driver to win a race in F1.
Struggles and Challenges
Despite his early success, Leclerc has faced his fair share of challenges in F1. In 2020, he had a difficult start to the season with a string of retirements and low finishes. However, he bounced back with two podium finishes towards the end of the year, showing that he still had the pace and talent to compete at the highest level.
In 2021, Leclerc once again demonstrated his speed and skill, qualifying on pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix and finishing in second place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. However, he also suffered from bad luck and technical issues, leading to several retirements and low finishes.
